When you know you need to realign - and you're not sure HOW.
Because we either struggle to find the right position, or - worse - we're consistently stressed about keeping our position.
And we don't really want Plan B.
And if not Plan A or B.....
We suffer mega-frustration
• Token Interviews
• Lack of follow-up
• Wasted Hours Researching
We take remedial jobs
• Lack of trust
• Mission creep
• Missing Values
• Mis-alignment
Or - no matter where you look, they aren't hiring you...
so you seek more training and more education, which cost more,
and still don't get your career going where you want.
But your family is a top personal value for you, and you really want to be able to stay in at least the region, if not in your state!
And mostly by people who don't understand that EM is NOT a response position.
It is liaison, coordination, case management, social service, and sociology rolled into one.
That response coordination is the LEAST of the position.
Me too.
And then I was.
But when I am truly honest, I had already over-stayed in that position.
And this was when I stopped looking for jobs I wouldn't get and started making my own path.
It is NOT "a man's world"
...and we can be MORE successful when we get in our own flow, not theirs...
my mission is to speed you forward!
When I started in emergency services 30 years ago, I was consistently compartmentalized. And I started to box myself in.
Then, as recognition dawned for me, I started to segregate from the men in business and in emergency management. Which provided me with a supportive female community but no balance.
Blaming them or my lack of testosterone didn't help anyone.
And by restricting my access to the men in my field, I neglected their education as well as my own. You see, we are all in a constant state of training. Or. At least, we should be. By restricting my influence by men in my community and in my field, I paused my own growth. And perhaps even set it back. Because our field is increasingly gender segregated. And blameful.
At the very moment that I recognized this for myself, I determined to be more open and positive related to my own role in limiting my input and access.
What momentum will you build when you take full responsibility for your path and
you too have ultimate access?
Each of Us have great opportunity.
Be Visionary... Be Creative... Imagine the Possibilities.
We are either from the school of hard knocks (aka- I got a job outta H.S.) or the school of traditional academia. Either way, we have been "raised" in a field where tradition is elevated as THE WAY.
That doesn't work for all of us. And it doesn't work for everything. And it doesn't work for resilience.
The Future Demands Different. Are you clear on how you fit?
I don't personally subscribe to the "Imposter Syndrome" concept.
I believe a whole lot of us have great confidence, we just haven't made the space to build communities of raving fans.
And when we are told "no" once, it slows us from speaking up again. When we are told "no" 20 times, we may stop speaking up at all.
I am a firm believer that we cannot have to many communities! And that the world is abundant. And that we need to be at the table with people who are different from us..... And we need to be strategic about those places and spaces that we hold. I am a member of many groups and communities. And none of them are doing the things that we are doing in the emPOWER community. Our conversations are different and our experience is different. If you are open to unique messaging and opportunities, you belong here!

Each day we will have a guided discussion on a single topic.
There will also be a download to guide your evening work and help you land at the next session ready to move forward.
I got you! This is not a static "class" where you get no feedback. Each session will have chat open and a Q & A period at the end so that you have clarity as we move forward.
We are starting a career community for women in EM and as an attendee at this session, we will provide you member access to the group. While we are just getting started, founding membership will offer future benefits as well!
When we were little, we had a dream. And then someone told us to grow up. And we did. And now we aren't happy. Or as happy as we ought to be.
So let's revisit dreams, with an eye to possibility and IMPACT!
That is Okay!
If you have an interest in emergency management or preparedness, right now is the very best time to align your passion to your career.
Absolutely!
While my lived experience is that of a woman and I speak from that, the process that we follow can be utilized by anyone.
Quite simply, no.
And we don't plan to record them. Also, Diane lives and works in Illinois and is clear in her online sessions that recording is not allowed. According to Illinois state law, it is illegal for anyone to record without knowledge.
Frankly, we just don't know what Diane will say when she gets to training And we want EVERY participant to feel comfortable asking questions and sharing personally, There must be a trust that the sessions are confidential to inspire that interaction.
That's okay.
The materials provide structure and background, and Diane will be available by chat each evening inside our private community so that you can get support.
Your colleagues may also be in the community and be able to provide support from missed sessions.
While there isn't any formal preparation needed, it is recommended that each person spend some time in reflection,
For that reason, we will provide a audio recording and thought sheet by email a few days before the event.
Even spending a few minutes will be beneficial.
We have started a private community for women in emergency management regarding all things career - training, education, vision, path, etc.
We don't know what it will look like or how we will provide ongoing support. But there will definitely be a community room for chat - think: private FB or LI group style.
The lovely thing is that you're among the first to get in, so you get to help build this thing while we start to SOAR!
